Annatto

Annatto is a red food coloring which is derived from the reddish pulp which surrounds the seed of the achiote tree.

Annatto is used to color cheeses such as red leicester, smoked fish and the British candy (sweet) Smarties.

It is largely flavorless, which is one of its key advantages as a food dye. It has been allocated the E number E160b.

Annatto is widely used in lipstick coloring.
