16 Bean Soup Recipe - Cooking Index
| 2 cups | Mixed dried beans (1 pkg). | |
| 2 cups | Diced ham (other options are smoked sausage, ham bone, or ham hock) | |
| 1 x | Large chopped onion | |
| 1 oz | 28 oz. Can chopped tomatoes | |
| 1/2 cup | Cliced carrots | |
| 1/2 cup | Sliced celery | |
| 2 x | Quarts Water | |
| 1 x | Tsp chili powder | |
| - | Salt and pepper to taste |
Rinse the dried beans and soak in salted water overnight. To cook, rinse the beans and place in a covered kettle with the meat product and simmer 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Add the onion, tomatoes, carrots, celery, and chili powder and simmer another 45 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste.
