Hot-Spicy Texas Barbecue Sauce

Recipe Ingredients

3   Onions - (to 4) - finely chopped
3   Fresh jalapeño peppers - (to 4) - chopped
  = (or 1 rounded tbspn crushed dried
  Hot red pepper flakes)
8   Garlic cloves - minced (large)
1 cup 237mlStrong black coffee
1 cup 237mlWorcestershire sauce
1 cup 237mlTomato ketchup
1/2 cup 80g / 2.8ozDark brown sugar - (firmly packed)
1/4 cup 59mlApple cider vinegar
1/4 cup 59mlTexas-style chilli powder
1 teaspoon 5mlSalt
1 teaspoon 5mlFinely-ground black pepper

Recipe Instructions

Combine all ingredients in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to very low and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Let mixture cool in the pan for 30 minutes at room temperature, then puree in 2 batches in a blender of food processor.

Serve warm or at room temperature, as an accompaniment to barbecued beef or sausage.
