Recipe Ingredients

  Crumb Mixture
1 cup 62g / 2.2ozFlour
3/4 cup 120g / 4.2ozLight brown sugar
1 teaspoon 5mlButter
  Filling
1   Egg
1 cup 237mlMolasses
1 cup 237mlBoiling water
1 teaspoon 5mlBaking soda
1   Nine-inch pie shell
  Garnish
  Whipped cream

Recipe Instructions

Crumb Mixture: In a bowl combine flour and sugar. Cut butter into the flour and sugar until mixture resembles crumbs. Remove 1/2 cup of the crumb mixture and set aside.

Filling: To larger part of crumb mixture add egg and molasses. Blend in 3/4 cup boiling water. Dissolve soda in remaining 1/4 cup water and add last. Pour into pie shell. Sprinkle with 1/4 cup reserved crumbs.

Bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes. Add remaining crumbs and bake 40 to 45 minutes.

Garnish with whipped cream.

This recipe yields 1 nine-inch pie.
