Slow-Simmered Pork Roast

Recipe Ingredients

2 1/4 lbs 1021g / 36ozBoneless pork butt
3   Green onions - slivered
1 teaspoon 5mlFresh ginger root - julienne
2   Star anise
2 tablespoons 30mlMein see - see * note
2 tablespoons 30mlSoy sauce - light
2 teaspoons 10mlBrown sugar
1 cup 237mlChinese rice wine - or dry sherry
2   Garlic cloves - sliced thin
1/2 teaspoon 2.5mlWhite pepper - freshly-ground or to taste
2 cups 474mlWater - more may be needed

Recipe Instructions

* Note: Soybean condiment available in Asian markets.

Mix together all the ingredients except the pork. Place the meat in an ovenproof casserole just large enough to hold it. A crockpot may be used.

Pour the sauce over the top, cover the dish and bake at 275 degrees from 5 to 8 hours, depending on your taste.
