Basic Red Sauce

Recipe Ingredients

1/4 lb 113g / 4ozGround beef - (1/4 to 1/2)
1/2 lb 227g / 8ozOnion - chopped (medium)
4   Garlic - minced
1   Tomato paste
1   Chopped tomatoes - -or-
1 cup 62g / 2.2ozFresh tomatoes - diced
1   Tomato sauce
1/2 cup 118mlRed wine - or white wine
1/2 cup 118mlWater
1 tablespoon 15mlDried oregano - * see note
1 tablespoon 15mlDried rosemary - * see note
1 tablespoon 15mlDried basil - * see note
  Coarsely ground pepper - to taste

Recipe Instructions

* or 2 Tbsp. of fresh herb, chopped

Brown ground beef with onions and 2 of the garlic cloves and drain. Add remaining ingredients and simmer for at least 1 hour. You can add more spices or fresh garlic as you go to suit your taste.

This is an easy stand-by at my house. I use wine if I have it in the house but it's good without it too.
