Aniseed

Aniseed has a flavor similar to liquorice and is one of those 'love it or hate it' ingredients for many people.

It is widely used in British confectionary (eg aniseed balls) and in Mexico is used to make the drink atole.

Aniseed is a flowering plant grown in the eastern Mediterranean and in parts of south-east Asia (especially Vietnam).

Anise is the main flavor of the drink Absinthe and is also the primary flavoring in the drinks pastis, ouzo and rakı.

Aniseed is also used medicinally to cure digestive problems and help cut down on the pain of toothache.

Fishermen sometimes use aniseed as a bait.
