| 1 cup | 62g / 2.2oz | Quick cooking oats - uncooked |
| 1 1/2 cups | 355ml | Boiling water |
| 1 cup | 198g / 7oz | Sugar |
| 1 cup | 160g / 5.6oz | Brown sugar - packed |
| 1/4 cup | 49g / 1.7oz | Butter or margarine |
| 1/4 cup | 49g / 1.7oz | Vegetable shortening |
| 2 cups | 396g / 13oz | Eggs (large) |
| 1 teaspoon | 5ml | Vanilla extract |
| 1 1/2 cups | 93g / 3.3oz | All-purpose flour |
| 1 teaspoon | 5ml | Cinnamon |
| 1 teaspoon | 5ml | Baking soda |
| 1/2 teaspoon | 2.5ml | Salt |
| Daisy Frosting | ||
| 6 tablespoons | 90ml | Butter or margarine - melted |
| 1/4 cup | 59ml | Evaporated milk - or cream |
| 1/2 teaspoon | 2.5ml | Vanilla extract |
| 2/3 cup | 106g / 3.7oz | Brown sugar - packed |
| 1 cup | 237ml | Nuts - coarsely chop |
Measure oats into mixing bowl. Add boiling water; stir and cool. cream both sugars, butter and shortening.
Add eggs and vanilla; beat very well.
Sift dry ingredients together. Add oatmeal mixture and sifted dry ingredients alternately to creamed mixture.
Pour into greased and floured 9x13x2 inch pan.
Bake 30-40 minutes in preheated 350F oven.
Have frosting ready; spread on hot cake and place under broiler for a few minutes to brown.
Watch carefully.
Frosting: Mix frosting ingredients together and blend well.
